Tigers To Designate Adam Everett For Assignment

New, 3 comments

Adam Everett and Dontrelle Willis will have something in common come Tuesday -- both will have been designated for assignment by the Tigers, as reported by the team's official Twitter page.

The club has announced on Tuesday it will designate Everett for assignment and it will recall Worth from Toledo.

Everett, the Tigers' off and on shortstop since last season, had been benched lately in favor of Ramon Santiago. Santiago has already taken over as the starter at that position, and with Everett set to be released or traded, I'd imagine that will continue.

Everett was always a good fielder for the Tigers, but his struggles at the plate were simply too much to overlook. He is hitting .185 this season and only has four runs batted in. Danny Worth, who is taking Everett's spot on the roster, knocked in three runs in only eight games with the Tigers earlier this season. He went 8-24 during that stint with the Tigers and will now serve as a backup infielder (he was the Tigers' starting second baseman after Scott Sizemore went to Toledo and before Carlos Guillen returned).
