In the eighth round of the MLB Draft, the Tigers selected their skipper’s son, Patrick Leyland. Leyland, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound catcher from Pittsburgh, will now have to decide if passing up his scholarship to the University of Maryland is in his best interests. You better believe that Jim Leyland will have a major say in those discussions.
Jim Leyland’s managerial contract is up after 2011, so unless he’s extended, it’s unlikely Patrick will play for his father in the big leagues in Detroit.
