Dan Cleary Recovering From Surgery

Detroit Red Wings forward Dan Cleary is currently training in southern California in hopes that it will better prepare him for next season.

Cleary had surgery in the off-season to repair two meniscus tears in his left knee, which capped an injury-plagued season.

"My knee is feeling better," he said Wednesday. "I'm going to be training with T.R. Goodman, doing all kinds of stuff. I want to come back and have a great season. I'm excited about the year -- I think we've got a really good, really competitive team."

Cleary only played 64 games last year due to various injuries, mostly because of a separated shoulder suffered in December. He still managed 15 goals and 34 points and was one of the Red Wings' best forwards upon his return.
