Former Michigan State Spartan and Detroit Tiger Kirk Gibson has been named the Diamondbacks' interim manager. Arizona canned both manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Josh Byrnes on Thursday and quickly replaced them by handing out a couple promotions, including elevating Gibson from bench coach to manager on an interim basis.

Gibson, who first entered the coaching ranks as the Tigers' bench coach in 2003, has waited patiently for this opportunity, so it's nice that he finally got it. It won't be an easy task to manage the Diamondbacks, which currently have the third-worst record in MLB, but I'm sure he will make the most of this opportunity.
