Carlos Guillen Won't Play Third Base For Tigers

When news of Brandon Inge's injury came out, speculation immediately started swirling about who would step in to replace him at third base. Many names were thrown out there as possible replacements, including players in the minors and players on other teams. One player on the Tigers viewed as a logical replacement by many was Carlos Guillen.

To me, the thought of Guillen trying to play third base was just scary. His range is so limited that he can barely play second, let alone third. Of course, having Don Kelly or Ryan Raburn in the lineup every day isn't a much better proposition, but Guillen would probably just be a human-error machine at third. Considering all that, these comments about the chances of Guillen playing third are good to hear:

"[Carlos Guillen] is our second baseman," Leyland said prior to Tuesday’s game. "So, yes, you can rule that out."

My prediction right now is that Scott Sizemore will be called up to play third for the Tigers. Until that happens, the Tigers will likely just stick with a Don Kelly/Ryan Raburn combination, so I'm hoping a move of some sort is made soon.
