According to CapGeek.com, the Red Wings' salary cap for the 2010-11 season will be reduced by $50,000 because of a penalty. Here is the reason for the reduction:
↵↵↵Sources tell capgeek.com nine teams will face a cap reduction this coming season because performance bonuses earned pushed them past the upper limit in 2009-10. [...]
↵All nine teams were pushed against the upper limit in part because of long-term injuries and then past it when performance bonuses were achieved.

Out of the nine teams that were hit with a reduction, the Red Wings received the smallest penalty. The Blackhawks, for example, were hit with a penalty of $4,157,753. In comparison, the Red Wings' reduction was mere pocket change.
