It Could Get Weird With Ruslan Salei And Mike Modano

The two most recent signees of the Detroit Red Wings, Mike Modano and defenseman Ruslan Salei, have a little bit of history.

In a game on October 2, 1999, Ruslan Salei (then with the Mighty Ducks) shoved a vulnerable Modano from behind and sent him sliding head first into the boards, nearly squashing his head. Modano was wheeled off the ice on a gurney with a broken nose, mild concussion, and strained neck ligaments, which luckily only caused him to miss the next week and a half. Salei was given a game misconduct and 10-game suspension.

11 years later, they are teammates with most likely zero animosity toward one another, but Modano still might be a little wary around Salei and the boards during practices.
