NFL Preseason, Lions At Steelers: 10 Players Ruled Out For Detroit

New, 1 comment

The first game of the 2010 preseason for the Lions is set for tomorrow night in Pittsburgh. Detroit will take on the Steelers at 7:30 p.m. ET, and it will be the first chance for Lions fans to get a look at the rookies and other offseason acquisitions in a game situation. Also, it will be the first chance to get a look at Matthew Stafford since before the end of last season, as he finished the year on injured reserve.

Speaking of injuries, the Lions have been pretty banged up so far during training camp, and that is evident by looking at the list of players that have already been ruled out for tomorrow's game against the Steelers. In all, 10 players are on the list, although only eight have even been able to practice (two others have been on the PUP list since the beginning of camp). Here is the full list:

RB Kevin Smith
WR Mike Moore
TE Brandon Pettigrew
DE Jared DeVries
LB DeAndre Levy
CB Aaron Berry
CB Jack Williams (PUP list)
S Louis Delmas
S Ko Simpson (PUP list)
K Jason Hanson

Out of all the players on that list, really only Smith and Pettigrew have been practicing on a consistent basis lately. The others have been out for more than a few days now, so it's no surprise they will miss tomorrow's game.

I was a little surprised that Smith won't get to play considering he has been ahead of schedule with his recovery and has been practicing without too many limitations, but obviously the coaches feel it's best to give him some more time to recover before playing. Since this is only the preseason and the games don't count, that's probably for the best.
