If you missed the little fracas between Armando Galarraga and Alex Avila (which then involved Gerald Laird, who was defending his fellow catcher), here’s a clip of it on ESPN.
Jim Leyland downplayed the incident when asked about it after the game:
“When you’re a pitcher and catcher, every now and then you get your signals crossed.”
It’s not unusual for a pitcher to cross up his catcher, but it doesn’t normally escalate to a near dugout brawl. It’s been quite an up-and-down year for Galarraga, and he’s handled it all so well, but today something finally set him off.
