Mike Shaw Practicing For Michigan

Heading into camp, there were some concerns about whether or not running back Mike Shaw would actually be able to practice for Michigan. Questions about his academic eligibility came about the week before camp began, leading some to believe that he would be kept off the field, taking away some depth at the running back position.

Currently, Shaw is practicing with his teammates as if there is nothing wrong. Whether or not he will be able to continue to do that is dependent on what his grades from the summer semester say, though.

"He's practicing," said Rodriguez, who had the team don pads for the first time this morning. "He's still involved in that class, so it's still ongoing with him."

Rodriguez said players who attended summer school are just finishing up, so Shaw's fate is days away from being determined.

The good news for Michigan is that even if Shaw ends up being ineligible, depth is pretty good at running back. The bad news, of course, is that Michigan would lose a player that is good enough to start and has a couple years of experience under his belt. Basically, it won't be the end of the world if Michigan loses Shaw, but obviously the hope is that won't happen.
