Tigers Sign Chance Ruffin Hours Before Deadline

Several outlets are reporting that the Tigers have signed pitcher Chance Ruffin, their second pick in the 2010 draft. As expected, Detroit went far above MLB’s suggested pay slot to reach an agreement.

MLB’s recommendation was for $728,000, but the Tigers agreed with Ruffin on a $1.15 million deal.

Ruffin is a right-handed reliever out of the University of Texas. In his junior season for the Longhorns, Ruffin compiled a 6-1 record and 1.14 ERA, alone with 14 saves, and 97 strikeouts in 64.2 innings.

Still yet to be signed before Monday’s midnight deadline are first-round pick Nick Castellanos and second-round selection Drew Smyly.
