Tigers Drop Series Opener To Rays, 6-3

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Matt Joyce homered and drove in two runs as Tampa Bay doubled up Detroit, 6-3, in the opener of a three-game series at Comerica Park.

John Jaso had three hits and drove in a run, while Ben Zobrist, Evan Longoria and Carl Crawford knocked in a run each for the Rays, who had been swept in Toronto and had lost five straight games.

David Price (15-5) worked just five innings for the win, yielding five hits and two runs with nine strikeouts and four walks. Rafael Soriano shut the door in the ninth for his 32nd save.

Brennan Boesch hit a solo homer and Gerald Laird posted two hits with an RBI for the Tigers, losers in five of their last six.

Armando Galarraga (3-5) allowed four runs on five hits with four walks over five frames in defeat.
