Michigan State's Fake Field Goal Creates Quite The Buzz

During the first two weeks of the college football season, Denard Robinson and Michigan were busy grabbing headlines thanks to a couple of amazing performances and big wins (and some comments from Tate Forcier). The great play of Robinson especially caused a national buzz, as was evidenced by the trending topics on Twitter on the first Saturday of the season.

This past Saturday, it was Michigan State's turn to grab headlines after Mark Dantonio made the "call of the season," having his team run a fake field goal in overtime to beat Notre Dame. The play, which came out of nowhere and worked perfectly, immediately created a national buzz, as the trending topics on Twitter showed late Saturday night. From Spartan Tailgate:

Five of the top trending topics had to do with the Michigan State-Notre Dame game. The top two, "Fake Field Goal" and "Mark Dantonio," obviously refer to the amazing play that ended the game and the man behind the genius call. Further down the list are more topics relating to the game: "Spartans," "Brian Kelly" and "Gutsy."

The Michigan State-Notre Dame game did very well in the ratings, so it's no surprise that Twitter immediately reacted to the way it finished. Every week there are some games in the college football world that everyone reacts to, and this past week it was the battle between the Spartans and Fighting Irish.
