Dan Gilbert Would Like To See Ilitches Land Pistons

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert wants to see a Michigan-operated group buy the Detroit Pistons. That shoots Mike Ilitch and his family right to the top of his list.

"I'd like to see the Ilitches buy the Pistons, you know, and put that new stadium in Detroit," Gilbert told Free Press columnist Tom Walsh in an interview this past week at Quicken Loans' new downtown headquarters. "Like most people, I'd like to see a Detroit organization own and operate the Pistons."

Gilbert is a Michigan State alumni, so it's no surprise that he'd like to see the team in Michigan hands. There were even wild rumors when the team went up for sale that Gilbert would be a bidder, but he would have had to sell his stake in the Cavaliers to do that since an NBA owner can't control two teams.

Currently besides Ilitch there are three other potential buyers that include: Flint businessman Tom Gores, former Houston Rockets executive George Postolos and a group that operates out of Dubai.
