Jahvid Best Voted Pepsi's Best Rookie Of The Week

After a strong performance in Week 1, Jahvid Best was nominated for the Pepsi NFL Player of the Week. Despite two touchdowns, he came up (really) short to Arian Foster's record week. Foster set the bar pretty high, but Jahvid Best actually matched it in Week 2, making the decision for the Week 2 Pepsi Player of the Week an easy one

Best compiled a total of 232 yards from scrimmage (78 rushing, 154 receiving) and and three touchdowns in the Lions 35-32 loss. Best became the first rookie in NFL history with at least 75 yards rushing yards, 150 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a single game.

Best was up against some other productive rookies, but, as I said in the previous post, none even came close to his Week 2 output.

The weekly winner for this award is voted by the fans. At the end of the season, five players will be nominated for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors, also voted on by the fans. Jahvid Best made some interesting comments on the fan voting system:

"That makes you feel good because it’s not just an ESPN analyst, or the guys that do that for a living. It’s the actual fans who are voting, so that makes you feel good because it’s the people that enjoy the game who are voting for you.

You hear that, ESPN? You don't enjoy the game. In all seriousness, I'd hardly call some of the ESPN analysts "experts," but at the same time you also don't want something like this to turn into merely a popularity contest. Luckily, the first couple weeks have been no-brainers and the Week 2 winner was rightfully selected based on the sheer domination by the Best.
