Virtually every fan in Michigan cringes upon the sight of former Lions president and general manager Matt Millen returning to the state. But his job as color commentator for ESPN's football coverage occasionally brings him back to metro Detroit, such as when he covered Saturday's Michigan-Connecticut game.
↵Unlike his final years with the Lions, Millen occasionally talks to the Detroit media now. George Sipple of the Freep got to chat with him before Michigan and UConn kicked off. Among the subjects they discussed were some of the players on his former team, including rookies Jahvid Best and Ndamukong Suh. But Millen had the most enthusiasm for quarterback Matthew Stafford:
↵↵↵The biggest thing is they got a real quarterback. They haven’t had that, maybe ever, what this kid can do. This kid (Matthew Stafford) is legit. The ball comes out fast, and he’s accurate. He’s got it.
↵
Be afraid, young Matthew. Be very afraid. This is a guy who drafted Mike McMahon, Joey Harrington, and Drew Stanton.
↵Millen also shared his thoughts on the renovated Michigan Stadium and the Big Ten's new divisional alignment. Read the rest here.
