Week one of the 2010 NFL season begins on Thursday when the Vikings and Saints kick off the action. The Lions' season-opening game is against the Bears on Sunday, and when Detroit heads to Chicago it's unclear if DeAndre Levy will be with them as a starter or as a player who is out with an injury.
"Hopefully (I can play)," Levy said. "It's hard to say right now. Right now I feel pretty good but it's a big difference between feeling good now and feeling good out there (on the field.)," he said. "I'm just trying to see by the end of the week. I don't know exactly what the cutoff would be.
Levy missed practice on Monday. The players have today off, so the real test will be if Levy is able to go Wednesday and Thursday. If he misses one or both of those days, chances are he will be out on Sunday, meaning Landon Johnson may take over as the starting middle linebacker.
Although Levy was not able to practice yesterday, Louis Delmas was good to go, which is a good sign that he will be ready to play on Sunday. Really only he and Levy are noteworthy players that are injured, although C.C. Brown is also dealing with an injury that could keep him out.
We will learn more about injuries when the initial injury report is released later this week.
