The Detroit titans are one of the teams trying to challenge Butler in the Horizon League this season, and after Monday night's performance at Notre Dame they could possibly take the title from the two-time national runner-up. Notre Dame pulled away in the end for a 59-53 victory behind 13 points each from Joey Brooks and Eric Atkins.
Oakland was another local team that faced a difficult opponent Monday night. The Golden Grizzlies faced No. 15 Alabama in Tuscaloosa and fell 74-57. Reggie Hamilton had 16 points for Oakland, who trailed by 11 at the halftime break. Drew Valentine added 11 and Laval Lucas-Perry, a transfer from Michigan, added 10 points off the bench. The Grizzlies couldn't stop JaMychal Green, who had 18 points for the Crimson Tide.
