Red Wings Will Recall Forward To Replace Patrick Eaves

The Detroit Red Wings will recall a forward from AHL-Grand Rapids to replace recently injured forward Patrick Eaves.

Eaves collided and fell with San Jose's Torrey Mitchell during the second period of Tuesday's loss and did not return to the game. He was diagnosed with a lower body injury.

Eaves appeared to make knee-to-knee contact with Mitchell, so a bruised knee like Jimmy Howard had in January is a good candidate, but it could also be a ligament sprain like Valtteri Filppula suffered two weeks ago. The team didn't set a timetable for his return, so it could be anywhere from one game to a long-term deal.

Speaking of Filppula, he practiced in full for the first time since his injury, but he won't play on Thursday; hence the Red Wings calling up a forward. Filppula and Mike Modano are both scheduled to return on Saturday in Buffalo, so whoever the Red Wings call on won't be there long. Jan Mursak was the most NHL-ready according to the Wings, so he might get the call.
