Michigan State, Central Michigan To Play College Baseball Game At Comerica Park

College baseball is coming to Comerica Park in April. Michigan State and Central Michigan announced on Monday that they will play at the Detroit Tigers' home ballpark on April 20. The game is scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. start.

(Interesting that the game will be played on a Wednesday night, rather than a Friday. Perhaps the schools don't want to lose a Friday home date, usually the best draw of a weekend series. But mid-week games are good for interconference match-ups and schedule filler.)

The defending MAC champion Chippewas will be considered the host school. That's sort of curious, since East Lansing is closer to Detroit than Mount Pleasant. But maybe more CMU fans will be expected to attend the game.

CMU and MSU have been playing each other in baseball since 1911, making this year the 100th anniversary of their rivalry (and presumably the reason for playing each other in a big league venue). Central Michigan leads the series all-time, 62-46.

The Chippewas finished last season with an overall record of 36-22 (20-7 MAC), while the Spartans compiled a 34-20 mark (11-13 Big Ten).

A press conference to announce the game will be held at Comerica Park on Wednesday.
