NCAA Bracket Update: Texas Holds Off Oakland For 85-81 Win

The Oakland basketball team was one of the most popular upset picks in the 2011 NCAA men's basketball tournament, but no upset happened today in Tulsa. The Texas Longhorns topped Oakland with an 85-81 victory to advance to the third round. Texas will face the winner of the Arizona/Memphis game on Sunday.

Oakland made a run toward the end of the first half and got within five points of Texas. The Longhorns fired back, however, to take a 46-38 lead into halftime. The second half was much closer, but Texas looked like it was going to pull away when it went up by 15 with less than five minutes to go. That's when Oakland put together a big run and cut the lead all the way down to five points yet again. Texas went up by six, and on the ensuing trip down the floor an Oakland three rattled out. The final score ended up being 85-81 after Keith Benson made a pair of free throws with less than a second left.

Texas' leading scorer was J'Covan Brown, who came off the bench to score 21 points. Jordan Hamilton had 19 points for Texas, and Tristan Thompson had 17. Cory Joseph added 11 points for the Longhorns.

For Oakland, four players scored in double digits. Reggie Hamilton led the way with 25 points. Keith Benson had 15 points for the Grizzlies, and Will Hudson and Travis Bader had 14 and 10 points, respectively.
