Pistons forward Greg Monroe recorded a double-double and Brandon Knight contributed 14 points as the Detroit Pistons started their 2012 preseason schedule with a 101-99 win over Toronto Wednesday night. With 1:07 left to play and the score tied at 98, Raptors center Amir Johnson made just one of two free throws, then committed an offensive foul on the rebound. Will Bynum missed a layup on the other end, but Andre Drummond snagged the offensive rebound and scored, giving Detroit a 100-99 lead. Charlie Villanueva added a free throw in the last seconds to provide the final margin.
Monroe scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Knight supplemented his scoring with six assists. Rodney Stuckey, Jonas Jerebko, Andre Drummond, and Corey Maggette were also in double digits for Detroit, as Lawrence Frank used a full ten-man rotation throughout the game.
DeMar DeRozan led the Raptors in scoring with 17 points. John Lucas came off the bench to score 16 points and dish out five assists, and Jose Calderon added 15.
The Pistons return to action, again against the Raptors, on Friday in Toronto.
