The Detroit Lions have been all over the place in the weekly power rankings. To start the season, they were ranked in or near the top 10, and quickly moved up near the top five before dropping some bad games. Now, at 2-3 on the season, they find themselves falling even further, despite an overtime win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
SB Nation released their latest power rankings, and they have the Lions pretty far down the list. Joel Thorman has them at No. 21, in the same position as last week:
21. Detroit Lions (LW: 21, 2-3): A win in Chicago would cure a lot of their problems.
It's worth noting that the Eagles, a team that is 3-3 and that just lost to the Lions, are ranked at No. 12 in the latest SB Nation rankings. At any rate, some of the other prominent rankings on the Internet have the Lions earning a bit more respect. ESPN has them at No. 19, up one spot from the previous week, and also reference Matthew Stafford ripping out your heart – so that's probably a good sign.
FOX Sports was a little more generous. They have the Lions at No. 17 on their rankings, and that's up a full six spots from last week. This might be because Brian Billick has an affinity for the Eagles (he had them at the very top of his rankings prior to the start of the regular season, and has yet to have them below No. 15). Lastly, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports had them the lowest, at No. 22. That's no shift from last week.
