Viacheslav Shabunin won the men's race at the Detroit Marathon with a time of 2:25:26, while Liubov Denisova won the women's race with a time of 2:46.33. Both Shabunin and Denisova hail from Russia.
The Detroit Marathon, a course which runs through both US and Canadian territory, had the 43-year-old Shabunin win by a comfortable margin. He finished ahead of second-place finisher Girma Segni of Ethiopia by almost three minutes. Travis Barczak, Kyle Mena and Joshua Prevatt rounded out the top five on the men's side.
Denisova also won by a considerable margin as she crossed the finish line more than four minutes before second-place finisher Katie Howery. Serena Kessler of Ann Arbor, Michigan finished third. Denisova, like Shabunin, is also over the age of 40. She is 41 and a former Los Angeles Marathon winner.
The Marathon saw 3,749 runners finish in an average time of just over four hours and 29 minutes.
