Rockets vs. Pistons preview: Detroit tips off NBA season at home

The Detroit Pistons and their promising young talent open the NBA regular season at home against the Houston Rockets.

US PRESSWIRE

The Detroit Pistons open the 2012-13 NBA season on Wednesday night when they host the Houston Rockets at the Palace at Auburn Hills.

All eyes nationally will be on the Rockets and newly acquired guard James Harden. Last season's Sixth Man of the Year for the Oklahoma City Thunder was dealt to the Rockets this past Saturday, turning the super sub into the leading scoring option for Houston. Harden averaged 17 points per game last season, but now must quickly acclimate to his new surroundings.

With such as drastic change, the Pistons may benefit playing the Rockets in their first game just days after the roster-shuffling trade. All eyes in Detroit will be on the young front court players for the Pistons that can create matchup problems for opponents. Center Greg Monroe will get front court support off the bench from dynamic rookie big man Andre Drummond.

Drummond joins a Pistons team that finished strong last season after a 4-20 start to the season.

The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit.
