Doug Fister (10-10, 3.45 ERA) starts for the Tigers. Fister has struck out 137 batters in 161.2 innings and has given up more than three earned runs in a start just twice in his last 15 starts. Fister is 0-1 against Oakland this season, but he gave up just one run and struck out eight in six innings in that start.

Tommy Milone (13-10, 3.74 ERA) gets the start for Oakland. Milone has struck out 137 batters in 190 innings and he has won four of his last five decisions. He is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA in two starts against Detroit this season. He has struck out seven Tigers in 11.2 innings.

The Tigers beat Oakland 3-1 behind strong pitching by Justin Verlander on Saturday. Verlander gave up a leadoff home run to Coco Crisp, then shut down the A's for seven innings. Alex Avila homered for Detroit. The Tigers scored their other runs when Miguel Cabrera grounded into a double play to score one and a fielding error by Oakland allowed Omar Infante to score the other.
