NFL injury report: Backus sees starting streak end

Despite a short week, Detroit got through the Texans' game relatively unscathed.

Even though the Lions had a short week and a tough overtime game against the Houston Texans, they were able to get through Thursday's Thanksgiving affair relatively unscathed in the injury department. There were no significant injuries among those who played and were effective.

The two biggest names on the injury list were Titus Young and Jeff Backus. Young missed the game with a knee injury and Backus was out with a hamstring injury. For Backus, it broke a string of 186 consecutive straight starts at tackle for the veteran offensive lineman.

"I tried every thing I could have," he said. "I did everything I could, really. I didn’t start accepting it until about last night. It was going to be a real long shot.

"But, you know, I know I did everything I could to get myself ready. I prepared like it was a regular week. Like I said, it was very selfish to even try it."

In place of Backus, rookie tackle Riley Reiff started and played the entire game at left tackle in his place. Backus is also unsure of his status for next week's game against the Colts.

Among players listed on last week's injury report, defensive end Cliff Avril had a big game, collecting two sacks and forcing a fumble.
