College hockey scores: Michigan, MSU both fall on Friday

A rough night for both the Spartans (1-0 loss vs. Ohio State) and Wolverines (5-0 at Ferris State) in CCHA hockey Friday.

Both Michigan and Michigan State dropped CCHA games Friday night, but in very different ways.

Michigan State lost 1-0 to visiting Ohio State as Ryan Dzingel scored at 17:47 of the third period. It was the Spartans' second consecutive loss, and both were by shutout.

Freshman goaltender Jake Hildebrand has three losses this season in which Michigan State (4-7-2, 3-5-1-0 CCHA) failed to score a goal. He had 32 saves in the loss Friday.

Scoring and defending were problems for the Wolverines against Ferris State Friday. Michigan (5-8-1, 3-6-1-1 CCHA) allowed three goals in the second period, and fell 5-0. It's their fifth loss in their last six games, having been outscored 27-6 during that stretch.

The Spartans will face Ohio State again Saturday, with faceoff scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET in East Lansing, Mich. The Wolverines look to bounce back with another game against Ferris State scheduled at 7:05 p.m. ET in Big Rapids, Mich.
