It was a simple task for the Michigan St. Spartans the final week of the season: win and you become bowl eligible. The Spartans marched onto the field in Minneapolis against the Minnesota Golden Gophers and did just that, winning 26-10 and getting the much needed sixth win on the season. Their reward for the win will be a trip to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in Tempe, Arizona against the TCU Horned Frogs. The game will be played at Sun Devil Stadium on Dec. 29.
The Spartans certainly made becoming bowl eligible harder on themselves than they needed to, dropping four of their last six games. Prior to their 16 point win over the Golden Gophers, the Spartans hadn't been in a game where they won or lost by more than four. TCU has been bowl eligible since early November when they beat the West Virginia Mountaineers in overtime in Morgantown to get their sixth win.
Both teams will have one thing in common when they face off in late December: neither has ever played in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl before.
