The 2012 NASCAR season is off to an exciting start after a photo finish that saw Kyle Busch nip Tony Stewart at the line in the Bud Shootout on Saturday night which annually serves as the ceremonial start to the NASCAR season. Rochester Hills native Brad Keselowski had to be pleased with his effort as he worked through an early wreck and avoided trouble late to finish in fourth place.
The real work in the chase for the Sprint Cup starts on Sunday afternoon with qualifying for the 2012 Daytona 500. Keselowski will take the track in the "Blue Duece" for Penske Racing in the 13th slot. Tony Stewart begins the quest to defend his Sprint Cup title two spots earlier as the 11th car in line for his qualifying attempt.
The pole position and the outside pole position are the only two spots on the grid up for grabs in this qualifying session. The qualifying results will also allow three other drivers without a guaranteed spot in the race to clinch a starting spot based on their speed.
The speeds today will determine the starting order for the Gatorade Duels on Thursday which will set the remaining non-guaranteed spots and the starting order for the Daytona 500.
