NCAA Hockey Bracket 2012: Michigan, Ferris State, MSU, WMU Make Tournament

The 2012 NCAA hockey tournament bracket is out. It was just announced on ESPNU, and it was confirmed that three teams from the state of Michigan are going to the tournament with at-large bids: Michigan, Ferris State and Michigan State. Western Michigan received an automatic bid by winning the CCHA tournament.

Michigan received the second overall No. 1 seed in the tournament and will play in the Midwest Region (Green Bay) against Cornell. The Wolverines will play either Ferris State or Denver in the quarterfinals if they win their first game in the tournament.

Ferris State had hopes of a No. 1 seed, but after being upset by Bowling Green in the CCHA tournament, the Bulldogs will have to settle for a No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region with Michigan.

After winning the CCHA tournament, Western Michigan received a No. 4 seed in the West Region, meaning it will take on the North Dakota Fighting Sioux out in St. Paul, Minnesota. If the Broncos pull off the upset, they will take on Minnesota or Boston University for a spot in the Frozen Four.

Michigan State was the final at-large team in the field and also received a No. 4 seed. The Spartans are headed to the East Region to play Union (NY), and a matchup with either Miami (Ohio) or UMass Lowell would await them in the quarterfinals if they win.
