Big Ten Tournament 2012 Bracket: Michigan To Play Northwestern/Minnesota Winner

Going into Sunday, Michigan was in position to clinch the No. 2 seed in the 2012 Big Ten tournament with a win over Penn State. The Wolverines took care of business by beating the Nittany Lions 71-65. The win kept them in the race for the Big Ten title, and Michigan earned a share of the regular-season championship when Ohio State edged Michigan State in East Lansing later in the day.

The Wolverines' first game in Indianapolis will be at 6:30 p.m. ET on Friday. Because they earned the No. 2 seed (their highest ever in the Big Ten tournament), the Wolverines await the winner of No. 7 Northwestern vs. No. 10 Minnesota. That game will be held at 5:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.

During the regular season, Michigan took on Northwestern twice and Minnesota once. The two games against Northwestern both went to overtime and were both won by Michigan. The second was just played on Feb. 21 and resulted in a 67-55 win for Michigan at Northwestern. Earlier in the season, Michigan edged Northwestern at home by a score of 66-64. The Wolverines' one game against Minnesota was a 61-56 win at home back on New Year's Day.

If Michigan gets by its opponent in the quarterfinals, it could face Ohio State in the semifinal on Saturday. It would be the third year in a row that the Wolverines would take on the Buckeyes in Indy if that does indeed happen, and it would be the second straight year that the two teams were matched up in the semifinals.
