Preakness 2012: Pair Of Underdogs Have A Chance To Surprise

Bodemeister opened Friday morning still the favorite to win the 2012 Preakness on Saturday with 7-4 odds. This year's Kentucky Derby winner, I'll Have Another, was a close second with 5-2 odds on the Friday morning line. Adventurous bettors may want to take a chance on a pair of horses with slightly longer odds.

Joe Drape at the New York Times points readers in the direction of Went the Day Well and Creative Cause. Both horses showed well in the Derby but struggled with traffic in a crowded field. Went the Day Well finished fourth, and Creative Cause finished fifth.

Only 11 horses will run in the Preakness, and the thinned out field could benefit both Went the Day Well and Creative Cause. With a cleaner field and any signs of slowness from either of the top two favorites, either horse could challenge for the win.

Went the Day Well opened Friday with 6-1 odds; Creative Cause was at 7-1 in the morning line.
