The contract for the Great Lakes Invitational hockey tournament has been extended through 2014, as announced on Monday. Michigan Tech will remain the host of the tournament, and Olympia Entertainment will continue to partner with the school to put on the event. Also, Michigan and Michigan State will continue to be involved in the tournament. Two other teams will also be involved in future years:

↵Western Michigan is going to be the fourth team in 2012 as well when the GLI heads outdoors and is played at Comerica Park as part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival. The tournament will return to Joe Louis Arena in 2013 and 2014.
↵The 2014 GLI will be the 50th edition of this tournament, so it's good to see that even though the landscape of college hockey is changing, this annual event in Detroit is continuing.
