On Tuesday, Rafael Nadal advanced to the second round of the 2012 Wimbledon Championship by defeating Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3. The win was a bit more challenging than the final score would allude to, as Nadal opened the match in a 3-0 hole prior to regaining his form and putting Bellucci away.
In addition to Nadal, Serena Williams also advanced to the second round with a straight sets win, as she defeated her opponent, Barbora Zahlahova, 6-2, 6-4.
After being defeated in the first round of the French Open, Williams had to have been relieved to escape the first round of Wimbledon, especially after she faced a rocky second set where she was broken twice. Ultimately, she composed herself and battled her way back to the victory. Williams will face the winner of the match between Johanna Larsson and Melinda Czink in the second round.
