Despite upsets coming plentifully out of the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, both No. 1 seeds in Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova managed to advance to the fourth round of the grass tournament on Friday.
While Djokovic managed to beat Radek Stepanek, he struggled at times with the No. 28 seed before putting him away. After a rocky start, Djokovic refocused himself and coasted in three straight sets winning, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.
Sharapova had little trouble with her opponent, unseeded Su-Wei Hsieh, and easily advanced to the next round by winning her match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Despite a spirited effort in the second set by Hsieh, Sharapova had control of the match and regained the upper hand.
The entire Friday docket can be found at Wimbledon's official site.
