On Monday morning, Serena Williams advanced to the qarterfinal round of the 2012 Wimbledon tournament when she defeated Yaroslava Shvedova, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 on Court 2 in the morning's first match. The win did not come easy, but Williams managed to pull it together in order to reach the next round.
Williams will now face the winner of the match between Francesca Schiavone and Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals. SB Nation's own Bill Connelly predicts that match should go the way of Kvitova, setting up Williams with Wimbledon's reigning champ.
A clay-court specialist, Schiavone has impressed to make it this far; it's hard to imagine she has the offense to take out the defending Wimbledon champ.
The entire docket can be found at Wimbledon's official site.
