On Friday night, the Detroit Tigers will open a three-game weekend set against the Texas Rangers when the club travels to Arlington to challenge the American League West leader.

Since the start of August, the Tigers have been on fire, winning six consecutive games prior to dropping their two most recent ones against the New York Yankees. Detroit currently sits one game back of the Chicago White Sox for first place in the American League's Central Division and will undoubtedly be looking to make the jump into the top spot this weekend.

Texas has hovered around the top of the league all year and currently holds a five-game lead over the Oakland Athletics in the West. The Rangers have also won six of eight in August and are currently on a two-game winning streak.

The projected starters for Friday night are Max Scherzer for the Tigers (10-6, 4.72 ERA) and Scott Feldman for the Rangers (6-6, 4.52 ERA).
