Michigan State Football: Demetrious Cox Off To Impressive Start

The Michigan State Spartans have some pretty big shoes to fill at the safety position following the departure of Trenton Robinson, who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. While Kurtis Drummond remains at the top of Mark Dantonio’s depth chart, a freshman has made a big impression on the head coach, according to MLive.com’s Diamond Leung:

"Demetrious Cox continues to improve, and he’s put himself in a position to run with the twos," Dantonio said Sunday following a team scrimmage.

Cox was part of the Spartans’ 2012 recruiting class. He was listed as a four-star recruit by ESPN.com and was ranked as the 29th-best athlete in the country coming out of Jeannette High School in Jeannette, PA. He has been getting second-team reps in camp as of late, and could be in line to get some significant time in the Spartans’ defensive backfield this season.
