NASCAR At Michigan: Racing Returns To MIS For Pure Michigan 400

NASCAR is back at Michigan International Speedway for a full weekend of events capped by the running of Sunday's Pure Michigan 400.

Presswire

NASCAR returns to Michigan International Speedway this weekend, with the Sprint Cup Series' Pure Michigan 400 capping the festivities on Sunday.

On Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, the fun begins with Gatorade Pole Day, featuring NASCAR's top teams and drivers -- including last year's pole-sitter, Greg Biffle -- preparing their cars for the big race. Access to the infield can be gained by purchasing a pre-race pit pass.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series VFW 200 takes place on Saturday. It always seems to contain an exciting finish, with Kevin Harvick just holding off Timothy Peters in last year's race. This year's race should be interesting as well, as Kurt Busch makes his return to the truck circuit following Jason Leffler's release from Kyle Busch Motorsports.

The main event takes place Sunday, as the aforementioned Biffle (second place, 776 points) looks to overtake current Sprint Cup Series points leader Jimmie Johnson, who is just one point ahead.
