Former Detroit Lions coach and NFL analyst Steve Mariucci coached Steve Young in San Francisco, witnessing Young's career being shortened due to concussions. Mariucci was recently a guest of Bill Simonson on The Huge Show and discussed Lions running back Jahvid Best's concussion issues:

"I've been through the concussion thing with Steve Young. That's what ended his career, and I'm not suggesting at all that Jahvid Best's career is ending or being threatened, but we've seen these kinds of things before," Mariucci told Bill Simonson on "The Huge Show" this week.

"I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I used to watch him at Cal. I remember the day he got hurt at Cal and the whole stadium was quiet. I hope to God he becomes healthy enough to continue."

Mariucci also stressed that the Lions need Best to help bolster their running game and provide some balance to match their potent passing game.
