Outfielder Avisail Garcia and reliever Bruce Rondon, both Detroit Tigers prospects, were named the team's Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year on Friday, according to a report by Chris Iott of MLive.com.
↵Garcia has been up in the big leagues with the Tigers since late August, hitting .313 with one RBI in 16 at-bats. For Single-A Lakeland and Double-A Erie this season, Garcia had a .299 batting average with 14 home runs and 58 RBIs. He also showcased some speed, legging out eight triples and stealing 23 bases in that time.
↵Tigers manager Jim Leyland had this to say of Garcia, from the report:
↵↵↵I think this kid's a terrific prospect. I've been really impressed with what I've seen.
↵
Rondon, pitching for Lakeland, Erie and Triple-A Toledo, posted a 2-1 record with a tidy 1.53 ERA in 22 games. He also notched 29 saves and 66 strikeouts.
