BMW Championship 2012: Rory McIlroy In 4-Way Tie For Lead, Tiger Woods 1 Stroke Behind

The opening round of the 2012 BMW Championship is finishing up, and the leaders have emerged. Rory McIlroy continues his incredible year at the top of the leaderboard, 8-under and tied with Webb Simpson, Bo Van Pelt and Graham DeLaet. Tiger Woods also continues his recent early-round success, sitting one stroke behind the leaders.

Other notable scores from Round 1: Vijay Singh is 6-under through 15 holes, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar and Sergio Garcia are 3-under. Rickie Fowler is 4-under through 17, and Vijay Singh is 6-under through 15.

The BMW Championship is the last opportunity golfers have to make the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings and qualify for the Tour Championship. That's a crucial concern for someone like Mark Wilson, currently 30th in the standings, or Martin Laird, currently 31st. Wilson shot an even par in Round 1, while Laird was 2-under. It's the scores at the end that count, but this is something to keep an eye on all weekend.
