Lions Sign Tony Scheffler To Three-Year Extension

The Detroit Lions already looked set for years to come with second-year tight end Brandon Pettigrew. But it appears they really like their second tight end, too.

According to the Denver Post, Tony Scheffler has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Lions. Exact terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Post's Mike Klis reports that Scheffler, 27, will receive a $2 million signing bonus.

Scheffler, a Chelsea native, played his college ball at Western Michigan. He was the Broncos' second-round pick in 2006.

This season with Detroit, Scheffler has 24 catches for 212 yards and one touchdown this season with Detroit. He was acquired in April as part of a three-team trade that sent linebacker Ernie Sims to Philadelphia.
