Lions Place Zack Follett On Injured Reserve, Ending His Season

What started out as a breakthrough season for linebacker Zack Follett comes to an unfortunate end. The Detroit Lions placed Follett on injured reserve Wednesday, which will end his season.

Follett suffered two concussions this season, the most notable (and scary) of them coming on a helmet-to-helmet hit against the New York Giants that required him to be carted off the field on a stretcher. He has since seen a spine specialist to examine his neck injury further.

For the season, Follett made 16 tackles in five games as a starting outside linebacker and key special teams player. He’s in his second year as a seventh-round draft pick out of California.

Follett (who you can follow on Twitter at @ZakarianFollett) will likely be replaced in the Lions’ defensive lineup by Ashlee Palmer or the recently signed Bobby Carpenter.
