Video: 'The Simpsons' Mocks The Lions ... Again

New, 2 comments

Because of the Lions' losing ways over the last half-century and especially the last decade, they have been the butt of many jokes. Jay Leno, The Onion and your friends who cheer for other teams have all cracked jokes about the Lions over the years, and it's really not too surprising considering just how bad the franchise has been historically.

The Lions have also been made fun of by The Simpsons in the past. Specifically, back in early 2009 after the 2008 0-16 season, an episode portrayed Ned Flanders as the devil and had him wearing a shirt that said "Detroit Lions Fan." It wasn't clear why the joke was made, but apparently The Simpsons felt the need to take a shot at the team.

Well, it is now late 2010 and the show has once again felt the need to take a shot at not only the team, but the city of Detroit as well. Take a look:

I really don't have a huge problem with the jokes because, let's face it, the Lions have brought the wisecracks on themselves. That said, it seems a bit unnecessary to beat a dead horse with the shot at Detroit, but maybe I only feel that way because I've never found The Simpsons all that funny. (I'm a South Park fan but that's about it in this genre of television.) Whatever the case, it seems like an unnecessary and extremely random shot at the Lions, but then again, I suppose these jokes won't go away until the team shows some signs of life on the football field.
