Lions Claim Eric King Off Waivers

The Detroit Lions claimed cornerback Eric King off of the waiver wire today to bolster their injury-riddled secondary.

After losing Alphonso Smith for the year to shoulder surgery and Brandon McDonald to a broken forearm, the Lions were in need of some secondary help. King, who was cut by the team in the preseason, provides just that. King played four games with the Lions last year and four with the Cleveland Browns this year before he was placed on waivers.

Quarterback Drew Stanton was still practicing with the first team offense today, but Shaun Hill appears to be inching closer to a return from a broken index finger. Hill practiced with the scout team. While Hill is the preferred option for obvious reasons, it looks like the Lions are preparing to go forward with Stanton as the top dog for Sunday.

Cliff Avril and Chris Houston also returned to practice after missing Wednesday with injuries.
