Lions Add James Davis, Who Gets Injured, Then Re-Sign Matt Clapp To PS

On Wednesday, the Detroit Lions signed running back James Davis to their practice squad, perhaps with the intent of bringing him to the active roster before Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, what with the fact that the Jerome Harrison trade fell through and Jahvid Best suffering a concussion. To make room for Davis, they released tight end Nate Overbay, but it looks like Davis isn't going to make it to the roster after all, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press:

RB James Davis, signed yesterday, is on Lions practice squad injured list. They re-sign Matt Clapp

The Lions just can't catch a break at this point. With Davis injured, the team is likely going to work out some veteran running backs to try and get somebody - almost anybody at this point - to come in and back up Maurice Morris, if he does indeed need to get the start on Sunday.
