Lions Release Joe Jon Finley, Add Nathan Overbay To Practice Squad

The Detroit Lions have made a couple moves in the wake of injuries. There was speculation on Wednesday that the team had signed free agent defensive back Don Carey. We didn't know who would be released to make room for Carey, but now that's been cleared up: the casualty is tight end Joe Jon Finley.

Chric McCosky had this tweet about the move, plus another move on the practice squad:

#Lions practice squad moves. Release FB Matt Clapp, TE JJ Finley. Sign CB Don Carey, TE Nathan Overbay

Carey adds some depth to the defensive backfield, but probably won't be an immediate factor or game-changer. Still, it's a solid signing for a guy that has been a bit injured and might have some potential. Joe Jon Finley was the player to be released because Tony Scheffler is healty again and Finley isn't eligible for the practice squad anymore.

Still needing another tight end, they brought Overbay back to the practice squad, releasing Clapp to make room for him.
