Jahvid Best was officially placed on the injured reserve Monday, ending any chance that the running back can return to the Detroit Lions lineup this season. The team announced that it will re-sign Aaron Brown to take Best's place on the 53-man roster.
Brown was a sixth round pick of the Lions in the 2009 NFL Draft, but the speedy running back was a cut-day casualty during training camp this year. He appeared in 21 games for Detroit in his first two seasons, handling kick-return duties his first season.
Best ends his second professional season with 677 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns through the six games he was able to play.
Brown carried the ball 44 times for the Lions for 189 total yards to go with 17 passing receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown. He averaged 22.6 yards per return on 42 kickoff returns during the 2009 season, but wasn't retained in that position last year.
